So far, here are my stats, in a 60 Gallon up for 3weeks:
0 Amm, 0 NitrIte, 7.6-7.8 pH, 6 Degrees KH (Carbonate Hardness) and 0-1 Degress GH. I have not seen any Ammonia nor nitrItes yet, but was unable to test for the first week and a half. I added another 2 live plants (egeria densia) and a large rock from an established tank. Have not used any chemicals to alter any of my water stats. I have two guppies and a red-eyed tetra in there, but they can be moved, (the guppies will be soon.)

So, what do you think I can put in this tank? I am open to ALL ideas, but I would strongly prefer some colorful schooling fish, perhaps some livebearers small enough to feed to Tin Foil Barbs and Gars, but this would only be a bonus; they don't have to breed. I want most of the species to be colorful. I do, however, want at least 15 fish, most of the same species. I will have some live plants (swords, anublias, Java Fern and Moss) but havent added them yet.

anyone?

i say do a brackish tank :)

use the high ph tap water to your advantage
the java moss/fern and swords should do okay in slightly bracksih water if you aclimate them.
you can raise mollies since they do better in brackish than in fresh
they breed like its the end of the world ;)
you can do colorful chromides that school and i don't think they get very big.
and a big school of bumble bee gobies

have fun deciding.

Oh I will have fun... but I can't do a brackish tank - I know now the slightest about salt, and I don't feel like learning now. Maybe after it is established. I don't want to cut anyone down, but I was thinking of something a little bigger then mollies. I know thats tough to describe, esspecially since I don't know what I want, but I was thinking maybe swordtails? Just a guide, don't be discouraged. I would, however, like to fight some swordtails into this tank.

I'd say go for some schooling fish, and get a black ghost knife. Beautiful fish, and it's docile. It might munch on your small fish, but personally, I never had a problem with mine. Just keep in mind that it needs lots of hiding places.

good luck. :)

Black Ghost Knife, that is a good idea.

Wow! This sounds like it could be a very cool tank! Another chance to go wild with my imagination.

Well first of all, I've always been high on recommending the whole Angelfish Cardinal tetra mix, even though it's not really reocmmended, it just looks beautiful, and with a large tank, filled with plants, they should ahve enough hiding places to escape the Angels. I'd go with:

4 Angels (2 Pairs)
20-25 Cardinal or Neon tetras (preferably Cardinal- Larger)
6 Kuhli Loaches or 6 Cory Cats
Then possibly a Gohst Knife, I think one will work in this set-up, I just know they'ev always looked so interesting!

Also, in case you wanted for of a selection, you could split up the Cardinals, and add some Rummy Nosed Tetras in there to supplement the removed ones. Say, 16 Cardinals and 10 Rummy Nosed? Good Luck!

These fish are all slightly delicate, but if acclimated well, and given proper conditoons (good water quality, not necessarily perfect pH) they should be fine. A Quarantine tank would be good, to rid the fish of any existing diseases before you add them to your 60 Gallon, so you don't risk giving your other fish the diseases as well.

Good Luck! This tank was modeled after Fishiebusiness's tank, which I have always admired and deeply envied!!

That's a good idea.
I've never been to fond of angels though, (sorry) but I think I will go with your Rummy Nose idea. Do you know if cardinal's are large enough to remain alive with, say, a 5 inch fish? That's a little raw. I've had them before and they didn't last a day. I'm trying to keep fish that wont look like a meal to most others. Would they work?
