I currently have a tropical tank thats 55L I've had a few fish over the years in it but now its down to one catfish until i can afford to restock i bought some plants for it as it was looking quite bare a few weeks ago but they are all going brown and ive suddenly got a mass of green and brown algae all over the place what caused this is it because i need more fish do you think?

catfish is a corydoras, filter im not sure what its called but i have a juwel rekord 60 aquarium and its built in to it dont know if that helps? lighting it says 4 - 65w and have it on for 10 hrs in day, water parameters i will post later I need to check them :)

If you do not have any plants you do not need any lights. Algae needs two (2) things to grow--Light and nutrients. Take one away and it stops growing.

Also check your tap water.
