Ugh. This morning, woke up, snail had escaped again so i put him back in his tank. Came home this afternoon, did a water change on one tank, saw the snail. Looked like he had something growing on the side of his shell so i picked him up to take a closer look. There wasn't anything growing, but a huge chunk of his shell was gone and his inner body was exposed. I tried to find the missing piece, and it was laying at the bottom of the tank.

While I was searching the internet for ways to repair the shell, my cats pulled him out of the fishbowl i had put him in (with a notebook on top!), and he fell again, cracking the shell totally in half.

I guess what I'm asking now is the best way to put him out of his misery. Freezer?

oh that's terrible! I'm sorry that happened to your snail! I don't know of a way to put him out of his misery. I'm sorry. Do you know that he is still alive?

yeah, he was still moving around last time i checked, but i think some of his insides aren't inside anymore.

tha'ts not too good!!!! I never had any luck with snails so I don't get them anymore.

You could try repairing the shell with crazy glue but it does sound like a bit of a lost cause. Sorry to hear the story. I would put him in a covered tupperware dish in the freezer until the water he was in froze completely.

if the crazy glue doesnt work get a glass put him in there and stick him in the freezer. im not usually like this its just better because then he wont be hurtin any more. Sry for the loss!

This seems to be snail day on AC

:D

I love mine to death, sometimes they're more fun to watch than the fish...

With any snail related questions, I've found this site to be very helpful. If your critter is terminally ill/injured, I'd have to agree with the either freezer or step-on method of euthanasia. But maybe he/she will make it - good luck!

Hi wataugachicken
Why dont you give your snail one more chance ??
Why you just try repairing his shell - may be with some glue or who know even aqua-safe silicon could do some magic. Even if you dont get piece of his own shell - may be you could get yourself from elsewhere and try fixing it - I have a feeling that it would work.

All the best
