i have been working on a cloudy tank issue. its only 5 or so weeks old. here is that thread:

cloudy 45 with video

today i notice the clown loach's acting odd. of the 4 ( small in size about 2.5 to 3" ) 1 has decided to be the boss. he is chasing the other 3 alot. i even saw some kind of lock mouth to mouth. it was very brief but i have never seen this before? is it possible i have some kind of male female thing going on? thanks.

Normal clown behavior when establishing the pecking order. Lip locking, chasing, graying out are all normal.

thanks cweg. glad to know it wasn't something i am doing.

I would suggest doing 30% water changes every 2 days if your tank is only 5 weeks old. It may be cycled but is nowhere near matured enough for more sensitive fish such as clown loaches. That is why you are having cloudy water issues, it is a bacteria bloom.

Keep changing water for a few more weeks until it matures a bit, normally you should wait several months for it to stabilize before adding large sensitive fish but if you keep up on the water quality you will be fine.

believe me i am. the wife must think i'm crazy becasue i keep pulling out the python every few days. the water parameters are ok so i'm still hopeful the good bacteria will catch up. thanks for the info.
