i really want some kind of oddball fish for one of my tang tanks, however, i want something that is close to natural to the lake. i was thinking possibly something in the "Spiny eel" family since im to cheap to by a plagistoma eel. idk, what are my other options, opinions?

Wouldn't recommend it. They have a predatory nature and things could get ugly depending on the size of the specimens. You might recall that I asked a senegalus to make nice in my 90 gallon and things did not go well. He was subsequently moved to a specimen tank.

It's "bending" the biotope a little but you could consider an African Butterfly fish. Generally top dwellers/feeders, interesting oddballs, and non-aggressive. Other options include a large variety of catfish (synodontis). Check our dwarf petricola as they are actually native to Tanganyika and not too expensive. I have two in my setup but they are only seen foraging for food at night under the blue LEDs...

i love petricolas. but i want some fry lol. yea i remember that senegalus alright lol. there are a few oddballs in the lake, the mastacembelus eel, which rembles a fire eel or a spiny eel. as well as the tanganyikan livebearer, but i doubt ill be able to get my hands on these...
