Odor from Plastic Aquarium Decor

I ordered a small resin ornament made by Blue Ribbon and put it in my 5g hex. I like it so much, I ordered a larger size of the same decoration for my 29g tank. (It is called a Forgotten Ruin and has tons of places for the fish to hide and explore.) As soon as I opened the box, I smelled a sort of vinegary plastic odor, which is coming from the decoration. The first one I bought did not have an odor. I have let the new piece "air" for two weeks and can still detect the smell. I am afraid to put it in my tank, for fear that it will leach something in the water that will hurt the fish. I have sent an email to the supplier (Linens 'n Things, which has a surprising amount of aquarium stuff and parts for Marineland systems, at better prices than the LFS - who would have guessed? Way cheaper shipping than online pet stores, too.) So far no reply. Any advice? I do not want to risk damaging the piece by boiling it, but maybe I could soak it in something?

id just set it out side in the sun for a few days and the smell should fade away.

The sun could bleach the paint though so be careful.

if 2 days in the sun fades away the color id return it for poor quality. i have always put my new ornaments in the hot cali sun for 2 days if they had a odor and i never had paint fading thats crazy.

Update on resin decoration: I have tried EVERY suggestion for my "aquarium safe" Forgotten Ruin decoration: I let it sit in the sun for days. I soaked it for weeks. I let it "air" in between. I finally put it in my 29g tank again, and within a day the entire tank reeked as soon as I lifted the lid. Took the decoration out, the odor was gone in less than a day. I now have it stored in the cabinet below my tank, and whenever I open the door to the cabinet, guess what I smell? How could this possibly be safe for my fish? I get no response from the manufacturer.
