I'm so excited! I just tested the water in my 30g and the nitrites are just about gone! The test tube wasn't the bright turquoise but kind of a light periwinkle :) So should I do a small water change? I can't believe I'm almost there!
 
Once the nitrites are gone you have to dose to 4ppm ammonia then do a check after 24 hours. Once they both read zero that is when you do your w/c. If you end the cycle prematurly you'll end up with nitrite spikes instead of ammonia spikes, and either way will end up doing double w/c's.
 
This is a fishy cycle, ammonia is zero and nitrates are 5. I've been doing w/c's to get the nitrites down and they're almost there but not quite zero. I didn't know if I needed to do a small w/c to get them down some more.

test your water every day for the next week

i would wait a week or a week in a half because at this stage anything can set you back a bit, and to make sure that the filter is stable, since the bacteria are still growing. that last thing you would want is for ich or some other disease introduced into your aquarium the day after it finishes cycling, and then you have to treat the tank and then harm the biological filter (unless you QT, but then you can go get some new fish tomorrow, for you should be QTing them for at least two weeks)
 
Great, but if my nitrites go back up I would need to do a w/c right?
 
But they should start going down on their own right?
