I got those compact flourscent bulbs a couple of days ago. I am getting a little more than 2wpg at 5800k - 6500k. I added a bunch of plants that were rated moderate to low light needing. (Sorry I ddin't pay attention to the names LOL). I added flourish and flourish excel. I don't have C02 injection. One of the plants got shifted by my catfish as he was digging thru the substrate. I went to upright it and it completely desinigrated in my hands. All of the leaves fell off, but the roots are still in the sand. All the leaves look nice and green on my plants. Now I am afraid to touch anything. What am I doing wrong?? I thought I researched this crap enough to try a planted tank :(

If they are not rotting, leave them alone. Most plants (to make things easy) need time to adjust to tank parameters. Most problems with newbies to plants I find is lighting (which you have) lack of CO2 and/or ferts. C02 makes a HUGE difference and at just over 2 wpg you are a candidate for it. It look me a long time to figure out exactly what ferts to use and when. Check out the stickies, there should be all the info you need on CO2 and ferts.

You need to figure out what plants you have. Cryptocorynes, for example, frequently "melt" when transplanted, but will grow back from the roots. Other plants, w/ rhizomes, should be placed so that the rhizomes are out of the substrate... You need to read up. Figure out what you have and goto plantgeek, tropic or other site for profiles...
