old chemicals...?

I'm new here. Hello everyone!


Just a little question to start. I'm just about to start a new aquarium. I've been given, along with a tank, a whole load of chemicals. I've no idea how old they are. there's a few tablets and lots of bottles of all sorts of stuff. None of it seems to have best before dates on it....

any ideas whether any chemicals are OK to keep long term, or should I just bin the lot?

They're in the car at the mo, as I was going to ask this question at my local aquarium shop, but then I figured I'd probably get better advice here... But if you like, I'll give you a list as soon as my wife back with the car.

i have to agree
alot of the time the chemicals only last for a short while and then becone oxidized mainly due to contacty with the air or become toxic so i would chuck them out just to be on the safe side
 
I agree on that. At best they are weak versions of themselves and so probably won't work correctly.

That's normally why it isn't a great idea to buy a lot of medications ahead of time. Chances are you won't get to use them.
 
I'd get rid of all those chemicals.Go to the LFS and get yourself a fresh bottle of Prime and also get yourself a master test kit.Those are the only things you will need to successfully keep fish IMO.
