Omg! Insane!

I wonder....sometimes fish go and peck at a snail when they see thier little eye things out and waving around....could it be possible, that while the fish is over checking out the snail's little appendages...the snail could wrap itself around the fish's head......hhmmmmm.......think about it....little fish poking it's head under the snail's shell...and ..."WAP"...the snail shuts the door right on the fish.

I say it's possible...Jenny.....put another fish in that that tank and watch that snail real good. Have a camera ready to snap some shots...hopefully, if that's what's happening you would see it with your own eyes and be able to recount first hand experience here.

Laugh and roll your eyes if you want all you doubting thomas' out there....lol....I say NOTHING'S impossible ! :joe:

The snail did not kill the fish. I'd sooner believe that the fish committed suicide. Snails move extreeeeemely slow. And they've got no grip to speak of. The fish must have died before and the snail simply cleaned it up for you. Either water paramters are amiss (can you be more specific about them than "good"?) or something in there is killing the fish - and it aint the snail!

I mean, unless this snail is the size of a basketball, it's just not really feasible.

Are you sure you bought a snail....and not a blue lobster or something???

that's as weird as my boyfriends mysteriously multiplying ghost shrimp....he bought 12 at the lfs for 2$, and put them in a 2.5 gal. with his betta...it didn't go well, and 11 died in less than a day. so he put the remaining 7 in his 10 gal. now....11+7= 18, and 18 is more than 12......and 6-10 hours isnt enough time for eggs to hatch and grow full size....

I lost a new cory the day after I got him this week, he couldn't of been dead more than 20 minutes and all 4 snails I got had already found his carcass and almost totally devoured him.

I've also had gourmais, either they die instantly or look sick forever before they die or just boom they're dead. Most likely, he was went down and you missed the normal fluttering/skittering cuz the snail zero'ed in on the death smell and held him down till it was over.

BTW, 3-4 weeks is usually the critical point with new fish IMHO.

Abby, did he count the shrimp in the bag? I've bought ghost shrimp a few times before and I've noticed that lfs employees tend to just make sure that they give you as many as you ask for, usually a few more, but they don't try very hard to make sure that they hit the exact number.

I had a snail once..... he crawled out of the tank and on to the floor, then my bala decided he wanted to join him, so he jumped out too, now I dont know if the snail used mental telepathy on my bala and made him commit suicide, but it seems very suspicious.LOL... (True story, I dont about the mental telepathy though)

Back to the thread, I have to go with the majority, I believe that the fish died first and then the snail had a go at it. I think this should be an X-file.

Ash...I would think there was something wrong with the water to make both parties jump ship....lol....most logical assumption....but then again...if snails can attack and devour a healthy fish....snail telepathy may be a possibility... :joke:

I think it is very possible. Not to say that they are very similar, but look at the cone shell snail. It actively hunts, kills, and east perfectly healthy fish. It has a poisonous "harpoon" it can shoot out at extremely high speeds to catch its prey and devour them whole within seconds. It is possible the the apple snail may have found a way to get the fish and eat it while it was still alive.
