This morning I found the filter on my 5 gallon Eclipse hex shrimp tank had stopped at sometime.
I found a small MTSnail blocking the impeller. It must have climbed up and through the outtake as the intake filter sponge is tight and secure. So, I'll just keep the water level just below the outtake to keep em out.
BUT, I just set up a Green Killing Machine - Internal UV Sterilizer (9W) in my 29 that is getting green water and I could see how the snails could easily climb down the outtake tube and possibly jam up the impeller.
My thought is to cut a piece of sponge from an Aqua Clear filter and stuff it in the tube. Maybe even do that to the intake tube as the sponge they provide is a little flimsy.
I know this will slow the flow down to an already slow output, but I think it is better than having snails get into the impeller area.
Any thoughts on this idea?
