One of my cory seems to be quiet for the past couple of days and today he wasn't moving much at all and he looks very skinny. I thought he might not of gotten any food recently and I gave him a flake to eat, but he didn't eat any.

I have since removed the cory to the quarantine tank and he seems to be worse. He now will roll over belly up. When he swims, he just spirals all over the place. There's no sign of infection on his body, he looks to be ok as far as physical appearance goes, just not acting normal.

I'm pretty sure he won't last through the night.

But if he does, what should I do. He's one of my favorite fish. :(

Also, could it be that he has a cyst in his stomach? The left side of his body is curved inwards while the right side seems normal.

Well the cory died at approximately 5:28am in a tank next to me while I was doing some work. I noticed that he died after he showed no signs of breathing for 5 minutes and didn't respond after I touched him.

I'm still clue less, the fish showed no signs of infections or wound. Just dead.

Hi Peter,

I'm sorry to hear about your favorite cory dying. I am no expert, and can offer no explanation, but to say keep an eye on your other fish and test your water to make sure all seems right. I do offer my sympathies on the loss of, from the sound of your posts, what seemed like a very special fish to you.

Hmm. That sounds exactly like what happened to my cory that died about 3 weeks ago.

I didn't have him for more than a couple of weeks, but it sounds exactly like what happened to yours.

Did you have him for quite a while?

I had the cory for 3 weeks. The water was fine. Ammonia level was at .01ppm and nitrite was at 0, not sure what the nitrate level was. The temp of the water was at 78-80 degrees.

Same thing just happened to one of mine. I saw him stuck on the filter intake...i brushed him off, and he swam ok for a little bit...then just sat there. I put him in my Q-tank, and he died 3 days later. :sad

All parameters were fine. :shake:

My tetras and corys eat flakes that I place on the bottom rather than floating it. The cory should have enough to eat. Just last week I saw hime eating half a flake.

The cory didn't eat anything when it was in the quarantine tank.

Mine pick up left over flakes, and the occasional sinking wafer.

(will they eat algae wafers? my mom bought some of those the other day, because my sinking wafers are close to out...)
