I went to the LFS yesterday and he recommended that I get a pair of the Orange Flash (Aposto?) for my 12 gallon tank. Do you think this is alright? My tank is very heavily planted with two pieces of driftwood. I also have some Cardinal Tetras and 4 Longfin albino Cories.

Advice.. MAHALO!

Apistogramma. yes, a pair of these in a heavily planted 12 gallon tank should be fine.

I would worry about the cories. Be prepared to remove them if the apistos start to put a real beating on them. They may be ok, depends on the individual personality of the cichlids. They are fantastic centerpiece fish for small planted tanks and well worth giving up the cories (should it come to that)

Thanks, I'm waiting a week. The LFS has gained my respect... he recommended that I get them when I asked him about the Blue Ram. Upon further inspection, he told me to wait about a week since at that time they didn't look 100%.

Honestly, I would avoid the rams altogether. I know there are plenty of people out there that keep them sucessfully, but in my experience they rarely last more than a few months. They all seem to go out the same (personal experience, 2nd hand and anecdotal via forums). They start to breath heavy, lose color and hang out in a corner. Two days later they are dead.

The only exception is if I knew the fish were comming from a breeder I trusted.

Thanks for the advice. I was bent on getting the rams at first until they suggested the Apistogramma. Now I'm sold on it, and it will look nice in my densely planted tank with a dark red substrate.

YAY! I got them today!!!

No cheering, you tease! Where's the photos?

Orange Fish?
I have had Orange Chicken at a Chinease Restaurant. I like it but I bet the fish would be better!

I'll post the pics once I get into work on Monday (but I still need to be stealthy about it) about lunch time prolly. Haha, sorry for the tease, also I have a hard time taking pictures at all... I use the office SLR, but its still difficult.
