I finally got around to making a decision on replacing my halides. They're just too hot and the fans are just too loud for my tastes and the reef bug that bit me never really got a good grip on me... Turns out, I'm a FOWLR kinda guy =)

Anyway, I order a 2x96 Custom Sealife Powerquad retrofit kit... I'm thinking these with look as good, probably even better to the eye cuz of the actnics... My noise level should go WAY down cuz I can either turn the fans off totally, or replace them with smaller, quieter ones... Hopfully there will be less evaporation too...

Anyway, just wanted to share! Anyone else used em before?

hey raven.
what did you do with your old lights?
What bulbs you going to use? I have a 55 watt x2 ballast laying around if you want more pc lighting=)
good luck with the FO thing. how big was your tank anyway?

The old lights are going to a buddy of mine... He has a 125 and he wants to put about 6x175 or 8x175, depening on what will fit over it... So far he has his 2x175 from his old 55 and soon to be mine...

I'd take the 2x55 off yer hands, but the powerquads will effectively fill up my hood... However, I do have a friend that has a need for em... How much you asking? I'll let her know..

btw, the tank is a 55 and not entirely FO... I'm planning to do the corals I liked initially: mushrooms! I'm also looking at other low light corals... I've been reading up on gorgonians and it turns out they are (some anyway) non-photosynthetic... Also, I really like feather dusters, so I'm going to add a few more to my current 3... As for fish, I'm thinking I'll get a dwarf angel, probably a coral beauty or a flame, and be done there...

Actually I was looking to trade. I am up for pretty much anything in the livestock department.
In the dwarf angel dept, I am a huge fan of the bicolor, really pretty fish.

Hey folks, I got my new lighting! But they didn't send my bulb clips hehehe Custom Sealife put em in the mail for me 2 days ago, I'm hoping today will bring me good stuff =) I've been reading up on the Power Quads and, according to CSL, they are very comparable to the lumens that 175w halides put out... I dunno how the PAR fairs, but that's a good thing... I did fire one up and it looks to my naked eye to be about as painful to look at as one of the halides... The guy I talked to told me they had a stony coral tank growing under these things, so that bodes well =)

Anywho, I'll post before and after pics of my bryopsis garden, both with halides and then with the powerquads, incase anyone else is considering these things...

<impatiently watches for the mail man>

Let's see, priority mail from CA to TN SHOULD take 1-3 days, today is the 3rd day, so I SHOULD have my parts inhand today, right? right?!? Man I hate waiting for parts =\

<walks over and fires up his unmounted Powerquad just to stare at the pretty blue light> mmmmmmm soothing....
