Hi, I'm new here in this forum. here is a question. i have 8 in Senagal Bichir in my tank alone so far. i wish to find a tankmate for her. The first choise in my mind is Tiger Oscar and i saw them in fs is about 5 in. Will this conbination work? or is there any other choise. i don't want to hurt any of them. so please help me out.

first question is how big is your tank?
that might make the diference though I am not the one to ask on those fish.

How large is your bichir currently? If it is very young then it is probably fine in the 20 temporarily, but I would wait to get additional fish until you have the right size tank. It sounds like you should decide whether you are going to get tank mates for it or not, and pick your tank size based off of that. If you don't have space or money for at least 90-120 gallons then I'd recommend against more fish. I do not know much about oscars, but perhaps someone can let you know about their compatibility at least.

the senagal bichir is currently 8 inchs long. i know that both fish can get very large when they grow up. maybe i should wait.....in fact i'm more worry about the temperment of Oscar, will Oscer start to pick on the bichir. once again thanks for the reply

If you are into aggressive fish, there are many small cichlids out there that will live indefinitely in a 20L. Some that come to mind are:

Convicts (1 pair)
Dwarf Mbuna ( 5 - 6) (as well as other dwarf African species)
Dwarf South American species (there are many)

Do some research online. You'd be surprised what cool fish you can find that will thrive in your setup. Next time, pick out the fish you want first, then purchase the tank.

yes but a dwarf cichlid would be inhaled by a birchir.

before you by another fish start work on that 100 gallon tank for the bircher, then you can add in an oscar or two.
