oscars grow to a foot or more. this means that in a 55 gallon tank, the oscar will be longer than the tank is from front to back. this is NOT a good thing since it makes it difficult for the oscar to turn around. difficulty turning around leads to stress. stress leads to a shortened life and an oscar that is surviving rather than thriving. is that the way you want to keep your fish?
why don't you simply get fish that will fit in your tank instead of butting your head against the facts!
I had an oscar for 8 yrs before he died. He was about 13-14 inches. The other cichlids were meaner however.
I had a Red devil at one time who as he got close to full grown he started to pick on my oscar. I had the same luck with a TX Cichlid. I would think the same would happen with your GT. My oscar wasn't shy either. He would bite if I got close to him doing a water change and he also would take food from my hand. He had a great personality and I missed him when he died. Never the less your fish should be fine together till the GT turns mean at maturity. Oscars seem to have softer lips covering their jaw bones. When they bite it doesn't do as much damage as my other cichlids.
Convicts for instance seem to have very hard mouths and it welts you up even if a mean juv bites you.
This is what I noticed with the fish I have owned. Oh, Also my GT is meaner then my TX Cichlid.
Cyclon your GT is meaner thank your TX REALLY? My tx is one of the meanest fish in my tank he owns the gt and the is the fastest growing by far aswell.
hey.... i have a new notice... my sister just bought 2 little oscar...one tiger and one albino... luckily they get along, the GT is already an adult if someone think it havent mature... before the oscars came i recieved a pearl gourami(2") and another little fish(1.2")... i know this sounds weird but all of them are fine in the 55gal and the GT dont even try to catch them... i know that i will have to get rid of one Oscar... or maybe the two if the GT turns bad like before... but i hope i can hold one oscar and the GT.

Yes My TX was larger but the GT was more agressive and kept eating a lot. past the TX and now keeps her pinned down.
Till now in my past the 2 meanest fish I ever owned was the TX and a Red Devil. Now its my GT but he is growing so fast. I guess you never know what your going to get.
cyclon or anyone sorry if you dont understand... sorry i didnt explain...well i have my 90 with an arowana that belongs to afriend that is on a trip, so i had to put my white saum in the 55-60gal, then i got a pearl gourami and another little fish...then i got 2 little oscars from my sister... and is probably that i have to give my 90gal to my friend with his arowana... but i have always wanted an oscar so thats why i have been asking about having an oscar with my male Gt IN the 55-60gal...or having a GT pair in but i prefer the oscar.
