Well, she laid her eggs, and for some reason, he didn't fertilize them. So, even though I told my husband and brother that they weren't fertilized, they insisted to let them stay. So, they finally molded. And hubby removed them.

About how long will it be before she is ready to lay eggs again?

Look, I thought I would get an answer from the experienced breeders in here. I know they are usually ready to breed again after the previous fry are free swimming and removed. Now, if the eggs were never fertilized, would it take the same amount of time as it would if there had been fry?

Or, would she be ready to spawn if water conditions stay the same as before her last spawn?

i would say at least 6-8 weeks before spawing again, are you sure the other is a male, almost impossible to tell but you might have 2 females, good luck

I'm not an experienced Oscar owner. I've only had mine for a month or so. My guess would be that you have two females. If it is a male, give him some time, and you'll have fry in no time. Off the subject....LOVE your quote!!!!!

yeah...nice quote..:) now, for the oscars.

How old are they?? It could be that the female reached sexual maturity b4 the male. Its also very possible that you have 2 females. They will lay eggs if two females together. Average age of sexual maturity for oscars is 1.5 years, or around 6".(larger if fed right...:D ) Another thing you can do to assure yourself of the sex of your fish is take a good look at the spawning tubes(vents) The females will be fairly short and broad, pointing straight down. The males is longer, and more funnel shaped pointing slighty forward. When the fish are ready to spawn, they drop their spawning tubes giving you a good look at what they have, but if they don't, you can vent the fish yourself, though I don't really recommend it unless you've had some practice at it. Taking an oscar out of the tank, and having a look at its goodies is both tough on the fish, and the keeper.....:D GL, and HTH.

Well, the LFS gave them to us to do the breeding for him. He had them in a community tank. Said they paired off and started to fight the other fish from a slate on the bottom of the tank.

They are both tigers...I have heard that there are three spots under the males dorsal.

I will check with the other sexing advice ya'll gave.

Thanks for the responses.

sry....nothing on, under, or around the dorsal fin that will help you determine the sex of an oscar.
