Would otos be good tankmates for a male betta in a 5g? I believe they are to be kept in certain minimum numbers, as well?

Thanks in advance,
Bryant

Otto Cats are perfect Tankmates for bettas. Or you could try an ADF or 2. Make shure you get African DWARF frogs not African CLAWED frogs.

Thanks! How many of either would you recommend for a 5g?

2

i would say maybe 3

Three otos is too many. It's only a 5 gallon tank and with substrate et al, your actual water volume will be closer to 4 gallons. Otos like to be in groups of 3 or more but in a five gallon, I'd just go with 2.

It all depends on your betta. I had 2 otos in with mine and eventually found one half-eaten and the other cowering under the cave. I moved the other into my 55 but he was already hurt and died pretty quickly. :(

well then. I would say dont get ottos then. Unless you wish them to be happy.

I wouldn't say that, you could easily have happy otos with a betta. Mine thrived until my betta went berserk one day.
