ok, so ive tried cucumber and they havent touched it at all and i am going out tomorrow to get some algea wafers, but what else can i give them? i feed the rest out my fish with flakes and pellets and whereas the other fish go automatically to eat it but my ottos just sit there. I have plenty of algea for them to eat but when that goes i need an alternative, I sthere any vegitabals i can give them?

i'm pretty sure otos feed almost exclusively on algae, maybe if you could get something with a algae like taste or texture, like parboiled spinach, for example, you might emtice them to eat.

so far, my four otos have also turned their noses up at fresh veggies. I've tried zucchini, squash, green beans, spinach, broccoli, carrots, Romaine lettuce. They don't touch any of them :(

if you can get ahold of some Omega One Veggie Rounds, I highly suggest those. It's the only prepared food my otos will take. Regular algae wafers list fish or shrimp meal first, meaning they contain more meat than veggies. Omega One Veggie Rounds list kelp and spirulina first, so they contain more algae than meat. The meat is good, though, because everyone can use protein :) Herbivores also have a much easier time digesting protein than meat-eaters have trying to digest veggies.

I know a site that sells Omega One foods for VERY cheap, like $2-4 US dollars. Don't know if they ship to UK though? http://www.petdiscounters.com/product.php?productid=1157620&cat=794&page=1

another good one is beleive it or not, wardley. they have their #! ingredient spirulina and are 100% vegitarian, and they're the only ones my BN will touch. they're also easier to find and are a good second choice IMHO.

awesome! I did know there was a vegetarian fish food. I should look into that one.

I know! I couldn't beleive it till I read the ingredients list.

My oto's have both taken to blanched Zuchinni. They might not touch it for a few days, but keep adding the blanched zuchinni (Only keep it in the tank for a day or 2!) and hopefully they'll take to it like mine did. Both of my oto's have fat little belly's and I've no algae in my tank anymore.

Just my 2 cents
Good luck! <3 Oto's!

Both of my Ottos are doing well, and wouldn't touch Cucumber either, though maybe I'll leave it in longer next time.

I feed a mix of pellets, flakes, algae wafers, and granules to my fish and the ottos seem to be 1. getting plump 2. growing. I was worried based on what I had read of them, but they are doing fine.

I'll have to try those omega pellets though.

Otos dont only eat algae. Mine rummage through the gravel at feeding time, like cories, in addition to eating algae off the glass and plants.

Thanks for th great help. I think i can get shipping on the omega 1 but cant pay in sterlin, i shall see if i can get a simular product over here as im going to my lfs today.

After leaveing my cucumber in other night, ther is a hole in the middle of 1, but i got a feeling that was my flame gourami.

Thanks again
