i got a 15 gallon with the following:
5 bronze cories
8 platies
1 dwarf gourami
1 african butterfly fish

and please, it you would like to use the inches per gallon, im not going to consider that valid. i have a whisper 30 so its overfiltering and i have plants as well. please let me know. thanks

Not many people will advocate the use of that inch per gallon rule due to inconsistencies. The problem with your stock is the African butterfly fish. That is a predatory fish which should not be mixed with platies at all and even a juvenile dwarf gourami.

ive had the butterfly with the platies for about 6 months and he doesnt bother with them at all. i just added the 3 today and the gourami which puts me at the total im at so its not like this is a all of a sudden thing.

i think overstocked is used a bit loosely to me if you do water changes enought to give the fish adaquite (i guess thats how you spell it ) water qualitys then its not over stocked but yea the abf is going to get a bit big for that tank but the amount of fish in there take away the butterfly fish is ok as long as you do regular water changes monitor the water parameters and not put the fish through unnessisary harm by not giving them correct water conditions just plz plz plz dont neglect (another shaky word) the tank

Even still with the over filtering, a fish needs room to swim. So why put that many fish in a tank where they all wont have enough room to swim and be happy? Even with the more frequent water changes, and the overfiltering, fish need room to swim. So really the 1 ADULT inch per gallon is in fact valid. And I agree with all the above, the tank is overstocked.

It is overstocked, sorry :(. Take out the ABF and a couple of platies and I think you'll be good if you do lots of waterchanges/have adequate filtration. The tank would still be overstocked.

The ABF needs at least a 20 due to its full grown size.

Overstock- If there is room for the fish to grow properly, eat and swim properly, and WC are frequent enough to maintain clean water I see no harm. I would call it heavily stocked. Overstock would be where the fish are too crowded, cannot swim properly, and health issues prevail as a result.

Just my 2¢ worth.
