overstocking? why is it so bad?

These stocking guidelines were developed for the average fishkeeper who rarely does a waterchange. Does not know about the cycle, and if there is something wrong goes out to buy a chemical to "fix the problem" If you are more into the hobby, and know what you are doing then feel free to stock according to what you think you can handle.

I too declare this as the winner! ding..ding..ding... :joke:

May i suggest you be more politically correct about stating where and how AIDS is spread.

May I suggest you value truth and honesty over hurting others feelings? India does have one of the most serious AIDS problems in the world - conveniently forgetting that does not help those people. India has the second most people living with AIDS in the world, right behind South Africa. In a country of more than 1 billion people... India is a great analogy to a tank that is overstocked and not taken care of properly.

just because you live in a cramped livinh quaters does not mean you will get aids.. you have to have sex to get aids.. not just by sitting beside someone...does that mean if you go to a boxing match at the madison square gardens with it crammed full does that mean you will catch aids ??..
ummm i dont think so :thud:

Thank you. Thats exactly what I meant. I wasn't saying that it wasn't a problem. Its just the fact that that poster was suggesting you'd get aids just by being in cramped quarters which is not true at all.

I think the point being made is disease passes easier and quicker when people are crammed together. AIDS isn't a good analogy; something like the flu would be more suitable. Are you more likely to get the flu in a large room with 3 infected people or the same room with 30 infected people?

Hehehe but if nobody is sick in the first place nobody will get the flu =)

ok lets not get into a political debate, that's not my goal. I confirmed some of my assumptions regarding overstocking, thanks guys!

btw Onikun, 30-40 in a 10 gallon? WOW!! cool

I do weekly water change of about 30-40% and let the plants soak up some of the nasties. I vacumm the gravel once every 2 weeks or so. I feed very little only once a day and ocassionally not at all. I have a population of ramshorns in there as well and they keep the glass squeeky clean and liquify fish poop and dead leaves. My water is pretty hard so the snails do well. However I do know that one day the power is going to fail for an extended period and my fish are going to die.

By the way anyone in the toronto area want to buy some cheap fancy guppies?

thank you ... and why would you want to shove 30-40 fish in a ten gallon tank ??? how would you like it if you were shoved in average sized room with 30 to 40 other people ?? and then what if the power went out ??? it would get hot and you would get cramped its not gunna be fun so why do it to your fish ?? its just torture to them. in people over stress leads to heart attacks heart attacks = death they dont make little fishy difibulaters ((SP?))

Uh cuz i started with like 5 of them? I don't have anywhere to move them and i try to sell them. Would you rather i flush them down the toilet? If you bothered looking at the picture the fish still have adequate swimming space its not that bad.

One in ten white clouds in an overcrowded tank has FIV, stock your tanks accordingly.

(making fun of PEOPLE comparing AIDS to a fish illness, NOT the virus itself or it's consequence, just felt the need to explain that since some people take offense so QUICKLY)
