i haven't been able to get my hands on a water test kit because ive been so busy with work.

i remember reading somewhere that for the bacteria to grow, the water needs to be well oxgenated. more oxygen will accelerate the cycling process.

i havent got myself an air pump and i am relying on the overhead filter to airate my tank. its a 2ft tank with 12.5 gallons of water. i have played with the ohf to get as much bubbles as possible.

does airating the tank accelerate the process? should i get another air pump? thanks guys!

If the filter is the adequate for the size tank that you have you should be fine without an airpump and an additional airline. People use them because they want to see bubbles in thier tank which is just for viewing purposes. Oxygen is important in your tank as well as surface aggitation. Both should be supplied by your filter. I have not heard that over airating the tank will speed things up. I doubt it. You just have to be patient about the cycling process. I know it is hard but in the end both you and you fishie friends will be happier.

haha...

thanks man.. the filter only agitates one end of the tank. it seems, the other end of the tank is quite stagnant in comparision...

You can always use a powerhead without the airation to move and aggitate the surface of the water. This should eliminate any dead spots.

im trying to get myself a test kit, but the pet store near my house doesnt seem to carry them. im have to keep hunting..

I believe that you should be able to find them on line somewhere. Check and see if Drs. Foster and Smith has them.
