The male of my pair died and my fully grown Female needs a mate. Do they need to grow up together to spawn properly or can I just throw in a new male?

I'm not totally sure she's a female, but she was the bigger of the two that spawned.

if she was bigger, chances are that she is a male. The best thing you can probably do is research to find out if in fact it is a male and get a female of the same size. By research, I mean, actually see if you can find what exactly the egg/fertilizing parts on the male/female goes. I know the males is thin and longer, the females is shorter and blunt and looks as if it can release eggs. If you cannot get the same sized angel, don't add any at all.

Thanks for the quick help.

I guess I'll have to change his name from Angelina now.

Anyone have a 4 year old Female angel?

you can't be sure of a "pairing" by simply replacing the lost female (or male). not unlike your mom picking out your wife for you ... you may not like her. fish are the same way.

if you're interested in breeding, the best way to achieve success is to buy 5-6 juveniles and let them grow to sexual maturity and self pair.

I'm not interested in breeding, I'm more interested in keeping my existing angelfish happy. I know that women make me happy so I figured the same for him.
