I am well versed on treatment of internal parasites in FW fish ..particulalry capillaria and camillanus worms on angel fish..I breed angels and raise them..there have been bouts with these two which are easily treated using Levamisole Hcl .
commonly you treat the tank where the infected fish reside..treating the entire tank in the event that the parasite has spread.
but this has gotten me to think)..I know dangerous)in the even ot a break out of internal parasites..particularly worms..is the treatment the same as in FW.??

are the same meds used?? (prazi, metronidazole, levamisole, flubenzadole, fenbenzadole)

the main issue with some marine treatments is that it has a tendancy to kill off the life in the live rock and kill inverts...I would always recomend you treat the fish with medication in a quarantine tank...

Thanks..
that's what I was trying to figure out..most parasite treatments are onl 24-48 hrs then an observation period..
but in FW the concern is always the impact on other fish and passing the parasite off(very difficult to stop)
many times the parasites develop a symbiotic relationship so they usually do not kill the host.

but in Fw I have seen the host suffer and die fairly frequently.

thanks again.

when I treat my angels many times with camillanus they stop eating..so it's a bath til they start eating..then I use vet grade meds and mix it with the food. I do hear the medicated gels work well..I have tried pellets but many time mash the pellets and mix with bfood they love(bloodworm).

I have yet to deal with it in a marine set up..hence the questions.
with the inverts I was wondering..the normal meds i use do not afect the inverts in the FW set ups..but wondered if others here have had any experiences.

how is a parasite like Ich treated in a marine tank?Hyposalinity?
or meds? are there ich meds safe for LR? inverts?

the most common way of treating ich in the marine is hyposalinity yes, along with feeding good food suppliments..You can also go down the meds rout by using copper or formalin...i would not use ich treatments around live rock/inverts....

a great reason for a hospital tank

is it best to lower salinity slowly say over a 48+ hr schedule?

(i'm trying to document this in a log in the event this should happen)
