Parasites from frozen bloodworms? Really?

I was just researching fish diseases/parasites in connection with something that's going on with my fish, and came across something that said frozen bloodworms can give your fish parasites? Is this true? Seems like a myth....

Never heard of a parasite that could survive being frozen, possibly some confusion between frozen and live bloodworms?

I can see how it might be (remotely) physically possible...don't a lot of parasites reproduce by cysts? Ich obviously....and cysts can be amazingly resistant to all sorts of insults like freezing and drying that would kill nearly anything else.

that said I too have never heard of actual disease transmission by this route in fish. But I would rate it as "unproven" rather than impossible.

It must be possible, but I don't know how. I was always told to feed Hikari because of their 100% safe bloodworm sterilization process. This is what it says on the Hikari frozen bloodworms: Bio-pure blood worms are excellent for all types of tropical fish. Three-step sterilization ensures unequalled product quality - no harmful bacteria, parasites, or foul odors. It's a staple daily food for my discus and I've never had any trouble or parasites with my fish. Years and years ago, I used to feed some brand of freeze dried and it seemed like the fish always were sick. Just can't say for sure it was the food or not. But I won't ever use it again.

I agree with Debbi. If frozen bloodworms couldn't carry parasites, Hikari would have no reason to advertise them as part of their sterilization process.

Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em.
Little fleas have lesser fleas and so ad infinitum.

This is the aquarium trade. Are we seriously going to start trusting marketing labels in any way whatsoever?

Freeze dried at risk too? Man, I throw all kinds of freeze dried stuff in there, my severum loves them. None is hikari. I better look into this more :/ she has a parasite now

I've used San Francisco Bay brand's FBW as a staple for my DPs for years now with no issues at all.

I've feed my angels Top Fin Frozen Bloodworms for a month now and they are just fine (for now).
