Pathetic...

I get sick and tired about all this boo-hooing that cops have such a horrible job. Nobody is forcing them to be a cop. Work in a hospital and tell me it isn't stressful...work as a fireman and tell me it isn't stressful. You're not the only one that has a stressful job.

Give me a freaking break.

???

did someone say it was a horrible job?

do you have something constructive you'd like to add?

Why yes, somebody did say that.

I feel my post was constructive and I'm sorry you disagree.

I agree

When you're a cop in a area like Dallas and have 7 people in a SUV not pulling over when you throw your lights on then you can say negative stuff.

Cops have the worst job in the world. When you're outnumbered 7 to 1 I'm sure the stress is intensified. It was night he had no idea who or what was in the car. Just because they pulled into a hospital parking lot doesn't automatically mean thats is where they were heading in his mind.

Could it have been handled better? Yes.

But no cop in their right mind is going to take the word of someone who just failed to stop for his lights and siren. A cop that lets his guard down is a dead cop. Though after the nurses came out he should have dropped it right there.

very poor decision by the cop. he has no compassion for others. SOP or not he went the wrong way in dealing with the entire situation. he should be relieved of duty as a street cop and put behind a desk for a while.

I agree completely. SOP aside, there's such a thing as common sense, and decency, things that officer apparently lacks. Being, a young male minority, my conception of police officers is probably a bit different from most, but without going too far into things, let me just say these few things.

With greater power comes greater responsibility. Police MUST be held to a higher standard than the rest of us, or else what's the point. If you want to uphold the law, or be an agent of the law, you better put it upon yourself to be the best example of a law abiding citizen that you can be. Though this doesn't relate directly to this case seeing as how the officer likely didn't violate anything beyond the laws of human decency, it goes far to explain why we only hear about the bad cops and not the "good" ones. The good ones are simply just doing what they're paid to, while the bad ones are violating the trust of not just the people but the government as well.

This kind of controversy isn't new for the Dallas police department. A few years ago there was a huge scandal because a group of 3-4 officers were using their night sticks to beat the crap out of some guy who was cooperating with them during a traffic stop. Pulling a gun out for running a red light is completely out of line. I think the only reason the officer was being so tough is because of the neighborhood they were in. Plano is one of those suburbs where you will get pulled over more depending on what type of car you drive. If officers are allowed to hand cuff and follow arrested individuals to the emergency room, this guy could have gone up with them to their family member's room and then decided how important running a red light is.

oh don't apologize
everyone is entitled to their opinion. whether I agree or disagree..
I just don't think that one person saying cops have the worst job in the world..constitutes
" I get sick and tired about all this boo-hooing that cops have such a horrible job."

Considering that every time an innocent person dies in a hail of police gunfire this is one of the first excuses they try to pawn off on us... Something about high stress levels and split second decision making...

I agree, I was reminded that we(cops) should be placed on a higher standard.

BTW I know about being a minority too. I am one.

suffice it to say.. bad things happened here..and this really leads to more and better training in the department.

this one isn't in a text book.

I'm a member on a large automobile enthusiast forum.

There's always thread that goes something like this:

OP: 'Waaaaa, I got pulled over and was respectful but the cop was a big weenie to me...waaaaa.'

Responses: 'STFU N00B COPS HAVE REALLY HARD AND STRESSFUL JOBS.'

And then things usually digress from there.

So I guess my point is I've heard that line plenty of times outside of here.
