Just set up a 110 gallon tank and currently have one pearl gourami to put in there (with lots of other fishes of course) and I would like a group of them. How many should I get, and is it even wise to get a group of them (agressive??? The lfs guy said maybe a group of 5 to prevent fighting for domination)?

Anybody keep giant danios? Are they aggressive?

Right now the company would be:
4 hatchets (to be upped by another 4)
about 16 various cories
14 black neons
12 brilliant rasboras (to be upped by 6 more)
4 mystery snails
2 upside down cats (to be upped by 2 more)
3 platies
3 swordtail
4 guppies
2 stingray plecos (that is what the lfs called them, I think they are known as hillstream loaches??)
1 oto (survivor, I am not very lucky with otos)

I wouldn't try mixing very boisterous fish with rather docile ones such as pearl gouramis so it is up to you whichever fish you like but I would not suggest keeping both. It could work but the gouramis will eventually be stressed by the constant movements, not to mention the possibility of fin nipping.

For a 110g, you can try two males and three females provided there is enough floating plants for them to mark their boundaries. Males are often more aggressive and will rival each other for territories.

Ditch those hillstream loaches. Unless you have a river specialist tank for them, they cannot live in a tank where currents and cooler waters are needed. If you intend to replace them, eye some hara haras or glass catfish. If you still opt to keep loaches, there are always Pangios or some Botia striata.

I will go with the gouramis then.
The ones the lfs had today were all very small, so it was hard to sex them...I will wait and see in a couple of weeks (no hurry).
Would a group of 5 females work?
