pearling or bubbing plants

Pearling is when the plants give off streams or bubbles of oxygen. It happens under optimal conditions when the plants are growing quickly and there is enough co2, fertilizers, and light. It is not necessary for good plant growth but it looks pretty cool though.

I just got back from a 2 week vacation from home, came back to a ton of hair algae living at the top 3 inches of the aquarium.... it was pearling as well... haha seriously it had a TON of bubbles in it... looked pretty cool, in all honesty though... i almost left it in there.

i used to diatom my tanks and hit them heavy with CO2. this would almost always cause pearling...Swords, val, sag, all pearl well for me. I believe if your plants are pearling they are on max grow mode....

I don't believe there is any harm in pearling unless someone tells me differently...

I've noticed in my tank that only one more bps of C02 can be the difference between pearling or not. I really like to watch my sags give off streams of bubbles. Kind of a "shock and awe" thing for me...

high plant mass is also important for pearling because it doesn't matter how well a particular plant pearls but if you only have one plant in a 20 gallon tank you are not going to get pearling no matter how high your co2 is.

I did a 50% water change yesterday, a day after my DIY CO2 spewed a bunch of the yeast/sugar/water mixture into my tank, and one of my swords started pearling for the first time. It was cool to see since I am only running 1 2L bottle of CO2 and 80 watts of T12 on my 55g

when you do water changes that causes pearling because it puts more co2 in to the water for the plants. I love pearling. I think it looks soo cool

I can barely see into my tank with the amount of bubbles in my tank after a water change.
