Peat covered gravel

Hey all

I was just wondering if anyone has ever filtered some peat and pulled all the sinking bits out and put that on top of the gravel in your tank enough to form a layer a half inch thick?

I believe Cories love it as well as any other bottom feeders.

Any recommendations?
