So one of my 3" Keyholes gets this bright red coloration at the base of it's pelvic fins from time to time. It seems to happen when I feed, but not every time. When I check back awhile later, it is gone. Is this something normal or should I be concerned? I've kind of thought maybe it just happens when it gets excited or something but I honestly don't know. I'm just curious what you guys have to say about it since you're more cichlid savvy than I am. Since these two are my first, I am learning more about them as they grow and mature.

Pics and video is needed or "No soup for you!!!" lol. Yea I have no idea why they get that. Never owned Keyholes before. Wonder what others have to say about this.

Its not there right now to take a pic of, but I did some MS paint artwork on a picture of a keyhole I found through google.

Its on the fin at the very base where it meets the body. Very small thin area like the line in the pic. Bright red like blood.

Hmm maybe damage to the base of the pelvic fin. I've seen this before on some of my jack dempsey stock. To be honest it isn't life threatening and most likely isn't causing your fish any distress or pain. Just watch the little guy. If you see him stop eatting then I'd worry, it'll probably go away on it's own. Try to get a photo, it'll be a lot more helpful.

If it were damage, wouldn't it be there all the time and not just every once in awhile when I feed? I'll try to get a photo next time it pops up.

Well, I just fed them dinner and no redness appeared tonight. Might even be a few days or a week before I even see it again.

This is about as bad as my dog limping all the way up to the door, then being perfectly fine once in the door and hoping for a treat. Dang animals!

I have 3 3" Keyholes they do tend to throw colors off on the mood swings possibly is what your seeing..
