I just recently purchased a Penguin 170 to run alongside my TopFin 60 for my filtration in a 50. Question I have is there any friggin thing I can do to keep the noise down from the waterfall effect of the 170? The TopFin has a long spillway if you will and it goes quite a bit farther down into the water level than the 170 so I do not hear the waterfall noise from it.

Also reading up on it I am pretty keen on the effects of the BioWheel from the 170 which is why I made the purchase, could this also be contributing to the waterfall noise or not likely?

raise the water level so the lip is underwater - this is what I do so that less CO2 is flushed out of the water on my planted tank, and it's pretty much silent. The sponge idea will also work - a lot of people with planted tanks put sponges over their HOB outflows to reduce surface agitation.
