I just bought a Penguin 200 filter for a 20 gallon long tank. Is this too much filter? I'm concerned about creating a whirlpool in the tank. If I try it out, I probably won't be able to return it, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

Thanks!

Depends on the type of fish you're trying to keep.

You can't overfilter a tank, and some fish might love the current.

I really don't know how it would be like. I've looked up the specs and it says it has 200 GPH, good up to 50 gal. You'll have turn over of 10 times which is WOW. You always can put the filter on side instead of back and see how it turns out? If you're worried about it you always can return it and get pengiun 150 instead. I think you can at least try it out just to feel the current for like 10 min and clean it out and return it if you don't like it.
I got the exact same model for my 29g and I love it. :dance2:

I have a 150 on mine. The filter should come with a contraption you can attatch above the intake to control the flow of water. The 150 works good, I don't see how you could have much more flow from a 200 than you do a 150. The biowheel cuts down on a lot of the pressure from water coming out the out take. Hope this makes your decision easier!

Thanks for the responses. They didn't have a 150 at the store, but I'll check it out. The 200 looks huge on the back of the tank. "The Simple Guide to Freshwater Aquariums" recommends a filter having a GPH of 10x the tank size, so I got the 200, but this rule probably works better for larger tanks. Anyway, I will test it without the biowheel (so that I can return it if necessary).

Thanks again!
