Penn-Plax Cascade power filters?

love it!

I bought the Cascade 1000 about 2 1/2 months ago and LOVE IT! this is my first canister filter so I have nothing to compare it to. when the guy at my local fish store showd me that it's what they're running the whole store on and it's the only brand they carry and explained why, I was sold. I have it running on a 55G and my water is spotless. It's so quiet, the only part of the tank I hear (and it's right behind my couch) is my air pump. I would highl reoccomend this filter.

Again, I've only had it jsut over two months. But one of the perks was that the store where I bought it covers the 3 year warranty and has every part for it IN STOCK so it will be easy to take care of any problems.

hope this helped!

I think the OP meant the hang-on-back power filter rather than the canister.

Yes, I did mean the canister type, but no need to be sorry, as I was interested in reading your comment anyways! lol Perhaps the "Cascade 200" filter hasn't been in retail for long and or just isn't as popular as the other more well known canister type filters? After some research and comparison among other filters, I decided to purchase a Cascade 200 filter for my newly set up fifteen gal tank. I pulled my tank out from a fifteen hibernation in a cedar chest. lol Its been up and going for two days now. Tomorrow I will pick up some fish to start the cycling!

Return that cascade filter now! Not worth it.. Cascade HOB filters suck.. I have a cascade rated for 50 gallons and it can't even handle my 20 gallon long... I got ripped off.. by my LPS.. I found the Penguin BIO-Wheel 150 here on base and it runs 10 times better, and it's rated for a 30 gal, I believe.. just got a 55 gal last night.. going to go pick up a penguin 350B today.. and use it along side with the aquatech's that came with it..

Thank you "ayobreezie" for your reply. Before reading your reply, I had decided to purchase the Cascade 200. I found a site that did reviews on the various HOB filters and the Cascade 200 was one of the top rated. The Cascade 200 pump is rated at 185 G.P.H.. I'm using it on a fifteen gal aquarium and I don't run it at full flow control. I might not choose to use it on an aquarium over 30 gals, but for my fifteen gal its been great!
Thanks again.

It's nice to hear that there are some people out there who are happy with their HOB Cascade filters! Because I have live plants, I don't use the carbon cartridge in my filter. Instead, I purchased a sheet of polyfiber and cut two separate pieces to the same shape as the carbon filter. I placed the two pieces together in where the carbon filter would normally go. The polyfiber should do well in producing some good biological filtering. Now its just a matter of waiting the time for the cycling to go through its paces!
Thanks again for your replies!
