People pay allot for used Mag 350's

The Magnum 350 still seems to still be a popular used item on eBay. I know I love mine as its the best dirt accumulating canister filters out their for its size, I just cleaned one of mine after 4 months and the poly-batten was literally black with like tar.

To the subject point, I cant understand why people bid so high on them used. I see bidders paying $65 plus $15 shipping for these crusty uncleaned Mag 350 with missing parts when they could spend an extra $12 and buy a brand new one shipped to their door.

This weeks store to door Fathers Day sale is at Pet Mountain where a deluxe Mag 350 to your door cost only $92.39 with use of coupon code dadgrad.

I have wondered that myself.
I have one that I need a new magnet and impeller shaft for, just those parts are $35.

Was trying to find a cheap used one on Ebay, but there is no such thing!

Thanks for the sale info!

zigman i just last week got a new magnet and impeller off ebay for 15.00 shipped there is a guy in florida that sells parts often for mag 350 on ebay.

I snatch 350's up at auctions or craigslist for $35 or less. I got many spare parts (except the motors) for three almost complete filters.

Early in my bargain hunting days several 220's and 330's got in my car. Now I know better. They are the noisy ones that the magnet slips on when just a little debris is collected.

Yeah you have to be willing to take a hit on a used canister and that is if your timing is good on a great deal and willing to play the bidding game, sometimes that can be allot of pre & post work in both time and money.

I think those that refer to the Magnum as a work horse don't fully realize that the reason its a work-horse is due to the Magnums superior design . In fact like a mini-me FX5 the performance is in the design details. Circumference canister filters like the Magnum, FX5 and Ocean Clear, have a huge advantage over staked basket filters in that they incorporate the most important yet fundamentally basic engineering design in every commercial filtration system in use in the last 50 years, "high surface area to volume ratio". A high performance filter system will have at least 5 times the unobstructed (no baskets) surface area to its volume. This is what you see in just about all commercial and home appliance filtration systems except for the majority of home aquarium filter market stacked canister designs. The stacked canister was designed for home consumer ease of use, attractiveness, filter media sales, but not performance as the primary objective.

With respect to the stacked canister users, of which I myself an a part (sunsun), The FX5 and Magnum circumference filters are simply in a different performance class that really cant be compared except against other high-performance circumference designs like Ocean Clear or the new Fluval G series which although ridiculously expensive, has also gone to the circumference design in cartridges.
