55gallon tank. 8 tiger barbs. rainbow shark. two german blue rams. soon to be added are rummynose tetras.

right now i have black gravel, but sometime in the future ill be switching to sand. will these cats do ok with these fish? will they be ok with the gravel? how many should i get? they have a really weird shimmer to them dont they!?

Not sure about the shark, but I am pretty certain they will be fine with everything else. I have some with rummynose and previously with GBR's.

Those fish will be fine together. Sand or small gravel is also fine. I have mine on both and some in a mixture without any problems. How many? I'm the wrong person to answer that because I'd say at least a dozen. Or, in a 55, you could easily keep another species with the Paleatus. In that case I would say six to eight of each.

One of my 55's has a dozen C. julii and a bunch of C. paleatus along with Yo-Yo loaches, two breeding pairs of ABN plecos, L02 plecos, and a few angels growing out. I use an AC 70 filter and do frequent water changes. They're happy, healthy, and the plecos and black angels spawn regularly. Temp 76 degrees. The cats and loaches like it cool.
