We've had a percula clown for a few years. This past week we noticed that he was getting dark around the top of his head. The greyness gradually spread to the whole dorsal side of him. He's still swimming around in his normal space in the tank. Does anyone have any ideas of what's wrong with him?

Does this accurately describe the fish?:

"The signs of Marine Velvet infection are rather subtle. Respiratory difficulties seem to be one of the most common signs. Other signs are a decrease or a complete loss of appetite, rubbing against objects in the aquarium, erratic swimming behavior, and a dusty or dull velvety sheen, from which this disease gets its common name. Amyloodinium has shown a preference for first attacking the gill tissue of fish"

Our clown does not seem to have any of those symptoms (with the exception of the dusty color, which is not around it's gills). There has been no change of behavior. He still eats and swims normally.

u are not clear enough. u said that the clown is dusty looking, but not in his gills area. what do u mean by that?

oh, yes, forgot to say that often the fish gets dark in color could be that he needs vitamins, that his nutrision needs are not met

He could have a fungus growing on him or internal bacteria infection. It would help with a picture if possible. If you think that he is vitamin defficiant I would buy an additive. I forget the name of the additive I used but it is awesome and has shown a bug difference in my fish in 2 days. The additive I use has all the nutrients and vitamins that are found in the actual ocean. I have never seen such a drastic change from any other additive. If you are interested in the product name send me a message and I will get it for you, Thansk
