Is it safe to use Hydrogen Peroxide around Neon Tetras and live plants in a freshwater tank??? I've also heard that it kills snails... is it true???:help:

Certainly wouldnt be great with soft tissued live plants...

The fish should be ok with it if you use a minimal concentration and they are very very hardy. But generally i would say dont use it though. It has killed fish and its not ever a good idea to add odd chemicals into the water Not enough is known about it's effects to provide safe information on it.

What are you trying to use the peroxide for? I've used it in a planted shrimp tank to kill some hydra and didn't notice any ill effects. I didn't just dump it into the tank though, I used a syringe and put it directly on the hydra.

I put 10mL per gallon and the fish nor the plants haven't reacted to it, but I will consider using something other than peroxide... I really need to get rid of the snails before they eat all my plants agian... any suggestions???

not normally used for snails IMO. Normally used for algae treatment. If the tank is big enough consider loaches?

thats true. i started a long time ago but its worse and i no snail killer is bad for fish and plants so i never considered that

when my last tank, a 37g, got infested with fin rot and other nasties I couldn't get rid of, i wanted to be able to use some of the plastic plants and such for my new tank, 55g.

i used a full strength bath of peroxide to clean them and the nets. i then let them sit for 2 weeks before putting them in the new tank. granted, i let the tank cycle for a month before new fish, but i felt peroxide was safer than bleach for disinfection. it will completely evaporate and become inert. i don't know that i would put it IN my tank with live fish, tho!

BTW...QuickCure will kill snails. Course, if you don't have a reason for using it, you shouldn't.
