perpetual waterchange

I disagree that automation takes anything away from keeping the fish on full manual, at least as fully manual as we get these days. Should I not set my big tanks again because I could not commit to operating them with a manual siphon and buckets? I don't think so... that would mean that we should go back to keeping fish in glazed bowls as the Chinese did originally - I don't think that many hobbyists would accept that. If automation allows for both bigger and better maintained tanks, then I am all for it. The object for me is to keep the fish the best I can. I don't choose to increase my work load to satisfy a alternate philosophic principle that hold that it is better if done the hard way - in fact I very strongly disagree with that concept. If you must stick to that concept, get rid of the filters and heaters first.

This weekend I will begin to design a new autromatic water changer. Hopefully, I will be able to make it work by gravity force only.

I will post plans later.

With a tank bigger then 100 gallons a bucket water change is kind of pointless. I need at least 5 buckets to do a proper water change in my 55 gallon. If I knew what I was doing and had the money to do it, I would. I think it adds to the hobby. Since you have more time to enjoy your fish, and less time doing the dirty work.
