Pet Solutions for Methlene Blue

I gave up long ago trying to lower my high PH, not even tannis from my large un-boild mesquite tree limbs can put a dent in my 600 ppm Cal/mag water. All my fish are acclimated and especially my Mbuna that love this water. I was originally going to send a photo to Pet Solutions of the spilled Meth-Blue to get a replacement bottle but seeing how only a teaspoon full was missing Ill accept as is no big deal. Since the Meth-Blue will be confined to a cheap 10 gallon tank I think I should give it a try since breeders claim it works for Oscars. This will be my 3rd try battling egg and wiggler fungus so Im hoping using this stuff gets me to the fry stage where no meds are needed.

Good luck!
Thanks Ill post the results once my breeding giants lay another clutch of 100+ eggs. The part that always freaks me out is getting attacked when I reach in to take out the slate stone. Im a big chicken and have to don my winter long sleeve motorcycle gloves, even then those big Oscars really turn on my hands and arms lol.

Well I discovered 3 days ago that my giant breeding pair of Oscars laid a small batch of eggs on their favorite rock, only about 50. I can only assume that they were fertilized by the male and already worried that some may have been eaten since only the female was guarding the eggs and the male ignoring. Did everything right moving the rock with eggs to a 10 gallon filled with main tank water, an air stone, heater , and one teaspoon of Meth Blue. Although the Meth Blue prevented any egg fungus, no hatching wigglers took place. So I can only assume that either the eggs are bad, never fertilized, or damaged by the Meth Blue. Since the batch of eggs were so small (50) compared to previous batches that wood cover the entire 4"x12" stone (200), I have to assume its the eggs. Just hope the small batch is not a sign that that my female Oscar is drying up. Noe I can see why they recommend using a 5 gallon for hatching as even braking down a 10 gallon for failed hatching is a bother. I just have to wait for the next egg laying cycle about 5 to 7 weeks for my pair. Now I have a 10 gallon blue glass tank, I guess the tank I will be using for Meth Blue treatments. :)

Just wanted to add that I saw kordons methylene blue on the shelf at my local Petland yesterday. I ordered mine ages ago online in the small container and its lasting forever, but still, woulda got it from there if I knew they had it llocal.

FYI worth noting and that I forgot to mention, Pet Solutions sent me an email servery and all I did was recommend they tape tight the caps on their Meth-blue bottles as well as wrap them but that since the bottle only lost a tea-spoon and give me smurf hands for a week I felt fine keeping and paying for the product. They sent me another email stating they refunded my Meth-blue purchase. I really like it when a company shows integrity over profit like that and will gravitate to them more for that type of CS. 8^D

Good luck!
One last question if you happen to see this post. My Oscars are getting ready to lay more eggs again and I have a feeling using the Meth Blue (1 Tea per 10 gallons) may have been literally been overkill. Im interested in alternative fungus treatment that the eggs are predisposed to develop, does the remedy you recommend primarily work by raising PH levels. The reason I'm asking is because my water is so hard that it stays at a constant 9 PH & 650 PPM Cal/Mag, and absolutely nothing I have tried had hold down the PH for more then an hour, not even driftwood. In fact my tanks and fish are so acclimated to hard high PH water that trying to chemically alter the PH down kills my fish (long ago). My point is if low PH is the way those natural remedies work, then I had better just try Meth Blue again only this time at 1/2 dose, maybe 1/2 Tea per 10 gallons when I move the slate with the eggs to the 10 gallon egg tank. Ma Im not looking forward to getting attacked by these big boys now 11"x6", if they were teethed Mbuna id be in trouble lol.
