PETA to End Campaign Against PETCO as Company Ends Sale of Large Birds
San Diego, California ― People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc., today announced an agreement whereby PETA will end its campaign against the company and PETCO will end the sale of large birds, some of whom can live as long as 70 years, as well as making changes that will benefit rats and mice.

Oh for Pete's sake! Isn't this like paying terrorist ransoms? Won't they now campaign for them to stop selling fish and snakes and lizards? Sorry, I think PETA are just... gah!

In a word, exactly. To Petco it may have seemed like a small compromise to get the terrorists off their back (for a short while, anyway), but the fanatics will cry victory. This will only fuel the fire for future tom-dickery.

I'm no fan of PETA, but I'm not much of a fan of PETCO, either, at least my local ones. I have noticed many dead or dying reptiles and fish at PETCO over the years - quite frankly, I think their bird departments were probably one of their better ones! Oh well, score one for the radical vegans - I just wish some scientist would prove plants had feelings, too - then what would they do! I think I'll have a big, juicy rare steak and ponder that! :sim:
 
Hey Happy I was just going to say that. I figured that PETA was probably too excited about the seals to worry about Petco for the time being. In fact I think one of them wrote a little piece for the opinion section of the Chronical Herald this morning.

Bad seal hunters, so evil. Now where did I leave my veal?

i wonder how many peta members actually dont use any products whatsoever that have been developed with the help of animal testing (i.e. shampoos, soaps, drugs, etc.) i mean, its so unrealistic to think that they dont use anything to do with animals, and if they do, they're contradicting themselves

Probably more than you would at first think.

I agree that PETA are extreme, but I prefer them over Petco anyday. Of the two extremes, one being overprotection of animals, the other being complete disregard of animal welfare for the sake of profits, I would by far choose PETA. But thankfully we don't have to choose one or the other.
 
Do you really think PETA wants Anna Nicole Smith as a spokesperson? She's a little out there and recently at some awards show she was so not sober it wasn't even funny.
