Petco driftwood?

I went to the Petco by were I work, and noticed they have presoaked drift wood for sale in their tanks, has anybody had any experience with this? Is it good, bad or worth it?

This is the first time I seen pre soaked for sale anywhere.

The prices were 5.99 for small (about 6" to 8" long)and 9.99 for medium(around a foot) thats all they had.
 
I'd like to see some answers to this as well. I am wanting to get a small piece of driftwood in case I ever actually get around to getting a bristlenose pleco for my 29g.
 
at petco go to the area they sell the reptile wood in.
they also sell malaysian driftwood there. yes it's the same wood they sink in the tanks.
but you can get a medium sized piece for around $7-$8 these pieces are almost twce the size . I have found some really nice pieces there.
yes it is the same malaysian wood that can be used in aquariums(even says so on the label)
 
I got two pieces a couple years ago, and haven't had any problems. It didn't leach tannins, and all my fish have been fine.

As far as being worth it, I would say so if you don't want to go to the trouble of finding your own driftwood, boiling it, soaking it, and soaking it some more. And there's always the risk of chemicals in "wild collected" driftwood. I guess there could be in Petco wood, too, but at least it's already soaked.
 
I can defintely endorse the Malaysian driftwood found in te reptile section for use in aquariums. I recently bought a piece, i pre- soaked it but it did not leach anything. They had some really nice pieces.
 
pre-soaked driftwood is often good, but you have to watch that the plants they have growing in it is a real aquatic plant, and pre-soaked wood can also be grossly overpriced.

get the malaysian stuff in the reptile section.. make sure to stick away from the grapewood and grapevine stuff though. it won't work in your tanks at all.
 
A friend of mine bought some. Everything was fine except for some snails that hitched a ride. They were breeding like crazy, but his L. facsiatus took care of that problem.

Like J double R said, it is usually WAY overpriced...if you don't mind doing the work, go with the malaysian wood from the reptile section.
 
what work?? fill a bucket full of water and toss the wood in..change water every few days.

after a coulple weeks it should be fine.

most of the malaysian wood I have gotten sank to the bottom of the bucket..I have 1 long piece with a branch on it that thought about floating then settled to the bottom and it's fine.

the big chunks have always sank like light weight rocks.
 
all of my driftwood is from petco. had once piece that i bought anyway even though i saw like 10 snail egg clutches on the backside. just poured boiling water over it a few times and it was good to go.
 
I am thinking about adding another piece to my tank down the road a little so I am just lookin at my options. It looks to match the piece I already have, and I have no idea what kind it is, and the tanks at Petco didnt say what kind it was either.
