I was at my local petco and I saw that the tangs they have there all have HLLE I saw that the purple tangs dont have the color purple anywhere on there body but rather a white/off white color to them...kinda sad. A red Hawkfish is really dull in color. Pretty much the SW fish section is HORRIBLE. Coral is halfdead. ANYWAY!!!!! I was looking at a kole tang (no HLLE) that has been there for about a week and a yellow tang that is in another tank by itself (again no HLLE). I was wondering if it would be wise to rescue either one of them, my g/f really want the kole tang but im not sure if it would do good with my vlamingi, naso, and regal tang that I have already in my tank. I think that the yellow would prob torment the other three. I just LOVE tangs and I would hate for such a beautiful species of fish to die at the hands of a chain pet store. Of course I will QT them ect ect ect. I just want to know if those two or either one would do good in my tank. (kinda looking at your direction 5xevy)

your terms of "rescuing' are really just supporting petco in bringing in more saltwater livestock :/ (supply and demand) ... but if you have the room for it then go for it

yes I know its a catch 22, I rescued about 4 female bettas from walmart only for them to buy more and more. BUT I just hate seeing something suffer b/c of laziness and something preventable like CLEAN WATER and FOOD    :mad2: :mad2: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire:

Hard decision. You'll be saving those two fish, but then they'll buy more and even more fish will be doomed. I'd say do it though.

Hehe, if we saved all the fish at these stores we'd all have MTS with overstocked tanks!

I used to have a Kole tang. I loved the guy but he always hid and rarely came out when I was in the room. He was very peaceful to all of the tankmates, including another Tang. The bristletooths are great algae eaters and I really liked how his eyes stood out.

Both of your Nasos should leave the Kole alone but your Regal might pick on him at first. If so, it should subside. Koles are more likely the ones to get picked on rather than the aggressor.

Regarding the yellow tang...if you decide to get him, I would make sure to add him last to your main tank. These zebrasomas can pick on other tangs, angels, etc. My black tang constantly picked on my Foxface so I had to move him (of course, this was a QT so it could've been different in the main tank). My yellow tang ripped apart my angelfish during the night in the main tank, so I had to remove him as well. That was my fault as I added them in the wrong order at the time.

I'm not trying to discourage you because some won't be so aggressive. Mine wasn't aggressive at all until I made the extremely poor decision to add the Angel after the Yellow. If you decide you might want another zebrasoma in the future (like missc on here has both and they seem to get along well) then I would add that one FIRST and your yellow last. I'd add it last regardless if you're planning on any medium to larger fish. They don't seem to bother he smaller fish like clowns, chromis, etc. You have the tank room and if I was in your situation, I would buy them both!

well They bought the yellow I wanted but agian I am really hesitant on the whole yellow, agression thing so I might out not to get him plus the other 3 have bad HLLE so I dont really want to mess with that whole issue, As far as the kole hes fine, I want to get him. I really doubt that he would get nipped at by the regal as she is SHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY OMG SHY!!! She wont even come out durring lights out. Let alone nip another tang plus this one is bigger than all of my tangs (but not for long :D)

Its an opinion but i wouldnt buy them since it will raise there demand making more having the same problem, then you wont have enough tank space to fit these new diseased fish and you will be back on square one.

actually if they dont die in the store they will sell to other people Where I live its petco or the LFS (which I HATE!!!!!!!!!!  Plus there WAY overpriced) so I really doubt that petco will one day loose thier SW section, I think thats what sets them apart (aquatic wise) from petsmart. The fish arent diseased when they come to stores they come from reputable sources its just when they introduced to their tanks thats the problem. I might just wait until they get a new shipment in and get my kole.
