Petoskey stones

Anybody use petoskey stones in their FW tanks? I have a nice stone that I'd love to add to a tank, but want to make sure it's safe. It isn't shiny, so I don't think it has a coating on it. If it's safe for a tank, what should I do before I put it in? Boil it? Bleach it? For how long?

I think so... I have a bunch that I found around the Northport area that have been in my closet for 15 years! I think now I'll rinse them off and put them in the tank! I'm not sure if they would raise the water hardness though..

Drop one in a little vinegar and see if it bubbles or fizzes after a couple of minutes. If it does, then the rock will change the pH.
