Just a heads up. PetSmart is phasing out a bunch of their old fish and getting some new ones in for their new fiscal year.. I just picked up some reduced fish tonight, a couple yo-yo loaches ($3), balloon-bellied platies ($2), and some greenfire tetras ($1 each).. Like half of their goldfish were reduced to clear, and I noticed a bunch of fish were gone! No more dwarf puffers or large angels. =[ Anyway, they told me that they'll be getting some fish they have never carried before-- but they're not sure what yet. However, they did get in their new "opportunity fish" today.. Among these were venustus cichlids (beautiful!), blue acaras, flagtail catfish (very cool), odessa barbs, dawn platies, celebes(?) rainbows, and rummy nose rasboras. I had a question about the rasboras.. These are not rummy nose tetras, right? They look very different; the rasboras seem to lack the color that the tetras do.. but I was thinking maybe they were stressed, as they just came in today.
Just curious. I was excited when I saw "rummy nose," as I've been looking for the tetras everywhere!

Hopefully they get African Dwarf Frogs and Bristlenosed Plecos in my PetSmart as we dont have any in Medford, Oregon.

Does anyone else have these at their PetSmart?

My Petsmart always has had dwarf frogs. I haven't seen any plecos at the ones here except common ones (which I have no idea why they sell since they can grow far beyond what most aquariums can provide) and rubber lip.

Yonsu--thanks for the tip. I'll have to go to Petsmart here tomorrow and see if anything I want on sale!

Rummy nose rasbora is Sawbwa resplendens. They are not commonly available so if you have plenty of space, be sure to grab as many as you can accommodate.;) These are cyprinids, not characins and are very different from rummy-nose tetras.

Celebes rainbowfish-Scientific name: Telmatherina ladigesi. Look them up on google for information. Very hardy fish and should be fine for a 20g minimum tank size.

How many yoyos do you have currently? Always keep 3 as the minimum as they should not deprived of their company being very sociable fish.:)

I only have the two, but I will pick up another tomorrow. Thanks for the tip; luckily they had quite a few. As for the celebes rainbows, they were neat looking, but I think they were $10 a pop! Maybe I'll look into the rummy nose rasboras, but they were somewhat plain looking (but again, maybe they were stressed).

My PetSmart also has always had african dwarf frogs (two sizes), but only carries the common pleco (and the albino variety), the bulldog pleco, and the hi-fin pleco (which apparently is not a common pleco despite the similar appearance, according to the tag).

Sawbwa resplendens aren't that popular so there is not much demand for them however do grab a few as they will not be readily available for sometime. They are actually pretty to look at once accustomed to the tank. A heavily-planted tank is what you need to ensure they look at their best.

The hifin pleco could be Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps.:)
