Normally I don't praise stores for doing what they're supposed to do, but when a company or individual goes above and beyond the call of duty to help someone out and provide excellent customer service, that is noteworthy.

The Story:

1) The Best Price:

Purchased Eheim 2128 thermofilter from petsmart.com on 2/14. Price after my 15% off coupon was like $260. Plus I got an extra 7% back from my rewards program on my credit card. ;)

2) Fast shipping:

Order arrived 2 business days later, no extra charge.

3) THE BEST SERVICE:

Today my filter was going nuts. The LCD temp read out was flashing, the thing was making noises, the pump was pulsing. Frantic, I went to Eheims web site. NO USA CONTACT INFO - ONLY GERMANY. More frantic, I dug up my petsmart receipt, and called up petsmart.com customer support (OPEN SUNDAYS ALL DAY!!!)

I explained that this was a dire situation to the woman on the phone, and although it's been more than a month since my order date, if there was anything they could do to help me (even find an eheim phone number for the USA) would be appreciated.

She pulled up my order, and put me on hold to search all the stores in my area for the filter, so I could just go and exchange it! (WEE!)

Of course, a $300 filter isn't something that your local petsmart stocks. So she asked if I could do something to help my fish to survive 2 days. I told her I can probably help them through it on what I've got.

Petsmart is shipping me a new filter, which should be here Tuesday. Not only that, I don't have to pay return shipping on the old one. They are sending UPS to pick it up, pre-paid. \o/

And this, for an item from an almost 2-month old order.

PETSMART IS THE BEST.

I will still buy fish at small LFS, but for all my equipment - Petsmart has my loyalty.

:thm:

I agree with you.

I buy most of my equipment from Petsmart because they seem to have the best prices. As for fish though, my local pet store.

as for price - bigalonline.com is the best price in town

TIP for petco, petsmart shoppers..

if you find it cheaper online than your local store... print it out and bring into the store... they will sell to you at online price!!!

example

local petsmart/petco store sell Rena XP3 filter - 179.99
online price - 104.99

so i print it out and show them...they gave me at the online price...

I've found that petco is higher priced than petsmart for most items, both online and in the store. Petsmarts local prices ARE higher than their own online prices, too. But as you said, just bring a printout.

For even better prices, you can almost always find a 15% off coupon online if you search. Just google for "petsmart coupon code 15%".

Even if bigals or other stores have a better deal sometimes, petsmart wins for me because if something goes wrong you can always return an item to your local store. And even if the local stores don't have the item, the customer service is fantastic.

I wish I knew this a month ago. I went to Petsmart online for a Fluval 205 filter. They had a nice price online, about $10. less than in the store. I then drove all the way from Washington, DC to their store in Greenbelt, MD and wanted to purchase the filter. The manager there would not honor the online price, and told me to order it online if I wanted that price. I don't think she would have honored anything I brought in other than cash or credit card. With gas at almost $3.00 @ gal and my time, it would pay to save time and gas and shop online.

Lesson learned
:hang:

At that point I prolly woulda just bought the thing instead of wasting more time buying online and etc.

Although, petsmart prolly ships pretty fast to DC as their warehouse is in NY.

So I guess none of you are aware that Petsmart will match any price you find?

We constantly print out Big Al's pages and get those prices matched at Petsmart. No shipping charges, no waiting. Oh we rock it.

Really? That's very cool.

Between Petsolutions.com and BigAls, their prices are almost identical. Last time I checked, BigAl's was a bit cheaper, but cost more to ship.

Tom,
If you live in DC, you are surrounded by PetSmart stores. The one in Greenbelt couldn't be the closest. There are 12 within a 12 mile radius. Although 12 miles from DC is still a 45 minute drive! lol FYI, there are non-chain stores which I frequent more than Petsmart and Petco. They are just hard to find except by word-of-mouth.

Thanks Jon,

I live in NE DC by the National Shrine.

I do make the trip to VA and love to visit Annandale's and Wally's on Little River Trnpk. Both are just down the road from each other. I have also been at one other, but unfortunately, there was not a good selection of what I needed, so I've never been back, besides he was a little pricey and I don't care to shop in dirty stores.

Please PM me with the ones you prefer. Again, Thanks a bunch!!!
