Here is my Petsmart story...Gotta love it

A few weeks back at my Petsmart in Belair Maryland I saw a large pleco in one of the tanks for a very reasonable price of $4.95. I asked the salesperson if the price was correct and she said yes. So naturally I said I will take that fish and she paused, shook her head and stated calmly, "NO I think my friend is going to buy that one." Once more I said I would like that fish and she again stated "No you can't have it but you can buy the smaller one in the tank." So finally I said so you are telling me I can't purchase the fish and she told me NO!

Bottom line I called corporate and told them the story and they were not too pleased about my interaction with the salesperson. I was told that the store cannot hold a fish for a ""possible friend coming in when I was there with money ready. The corporate person then contacted the store manager who called me back and arranged for me to receive a pleco (not the one I wanted) for free. So it seems that Petsmart needs to weed out the inmature help and get some real salespeople and I might consider buying livestock from them again....

Unfortunately, you just dealt with an idiot :D !! Personally, I am much more concerned about the appearance of the animals in a store than the behavior of the employees. You know, this sort of thing happens all the time, you just aren't put in a situation to know about it...for example, in a retail store, or thrift shop, who do you think gets first dibs on the stuff :sim:

I would have to say that you got good customer service from petsmart. Although you delt with poor example of a sales person the company did take care of you in the end. If the corperate office said I am sorry and left it at that then that would be bad customer service. The fact that you got a call from the store manager and they gave you a free fish to compensate you for your interaction with one of their employees is a good thing. Now I have to agree that it should have never gotten to that point but it did and they tried to make it right.

You are correct, I was very satisfied with the result from corporate....

Just wished it had not come to that...but I thought I would give a shout out just in case someone had a similar problem with them and needed a possible resolution..

Yeah, they gave you a free fish because they had a bad employee. The *******s.

I definately would have laid into the manager before I left.. And I would have left with the fish I wanted.. lol

Here's one:

I went into one of the local Petsmarts with my husband and kids (aged 9 and 4). The 4 year old LOVES fish and has a 20 gallon aquarium in his room with 3 silver dollars, 2 tiger barbs, 1 blue dwarf gourami (named Blossom), 1 pleco, and a Hammer's Cobalt Blue Lobster that he calls Mr. Cleaner. He goes to sleep at night watching his fish. He loves them. (He's going to get my 36 gallon next year. Those dollars are getting BIG!)

Anyhow, hubby takes the 9 year old over to look at some stuff and I head for the tanks with the little guy. We're standing there looking at the fish, and he says in a rather distressed voice, "Mommy, what are they doing?"

I look and see a gang of small whatevers (wasn't paying attention to what they were) picking apart a 2½" angel fish who was struggling to get away. I mean, they were eating him alive. Big chunks missing here and there, fins half gone, you name it. He was almost dead. The salesguy is standing there, 1 tank over, so I said, "you know you've got a bunch of fish eating a dead angel over here."

He looks. Walks over. Looks again and says, "he's not dead yet."
And walks away.

I said, "Aren't you going to take the fish out? I really don't think little kids need to see stuff like that, do you?"

He gave this VERY huge disgruntled snort, stomped over with a net and fished the angel out.

I'm just glad my little guy is ultra smart. He knows that animals can and will do that to other animals, but he also knows that it was a bad thing to let it continue to happen.

My local big box pet store (Super Pet) is actually pretty decent-- the staff are knowledgable and friendly, the prices are really good, and the fish are just as healthy there as they are at the Big Al's warehouse down the road.

My local Walmart, on the other hand, is awful! I'd never even so mucha s looked at their pet department until last weekend, when I thought I'd take a peek and see if I could find any deals on equipment. I didn't find anything I needed, so I left empty handed-- but not before walking past their livestock tanks on the way out. Dead fish everywhere.

The saddest site was a platy tank, which was oddly sparsely populated due to the fact that six of the fish had been sucked into the filter. It was right out in the open, too, and really really noticeable. I mean, I'm the sort of person that won't notice that the couch has been moved until I try and sit on it and wind up flat on my *** on the floor, and I saw it just out of the corner of my eye. There were fins, tails, and heads poking out of the intake tube all the way up to the top of the tank. Obvious disregard for the health of the animals aside, why the hell hadn't anyone cleaned them up? It was really grotesque and very depressing. *shudder* >_<
