I try to buy my fish from fish stores and not the big chains like Petsmart.

However I do find that some dry goods (like filter cartridges) are much cheaper there.

Anybody else shop at these places because they are cheaper?

I rarely buy any dry goods in walk-in storefront retailers, b/c they're even cheaper online at places like Foster&Smith or ThatPetPlace. I remember picking up AC500s for $30 when the local Petsmarts/Petcos wanted $70 for the same thing.

.

Raskolnikov is right, the online sources are cheaper. On the other hand...you have to plan ahead and order and wait for delivery.
When I'm impatient I go to Petsmart. There is a lfs in town that royally sucks, and I won't go there, and Petco, which has less stuff than Petsmart.
There is a great LFS in a neighboring town, and I go there for major fish purchases. Also bought my last tank there. It's Charlies in Pekin IL...if anyone interested.

i buy dog, cat, fish food from petsmart or petco. i buy fish from my lfs.
just about everything else i buy from Dr.'s Foster and Smith. I have a variety of animals and it's just easier to order it all online at one place. and i can shop in my pajamas at 2am if i want and it gets shipped straight to my front door.
Foster and Smith is cheaper on a lot of things, although if you just order one item, the shipping costs make it more expensive.

We buy shrimp pellets at WalMart....$4.79 a tin compared to cheapest at $16.00 everywhere else....

I'm with Ramirezi, I have dogs and cats and fish, which adds up to alot of treats b/c my furry pets are spoiled!! My mom used to buy the pouches of dog treats from the grocery store for 3-4 dollars for a few ounces!! I scolded her after telling her that my dogs favorite treat from foster and smith is 7.99 for a 40 oz. box
But if I need some sort of equipment ASAP I will go to one of the big places, always alot cheaper than my LFS
