They weren't actually in the tanks yet, but I saw the info card! The real thing! Siamensis at PetsMart! I couldn't believe my eyes.

This is a truly happy day for we folk who have always had trouble getting a hold of these wonderful little fish. Now a constant source with a fourteen day life guarantee.

Sorry just had to share the joy.

My non-fish friends looked at me like I was a lunatic when I got all excited about this at the store. :headbang2:

That is awesome if they have the real thing. Do a little reasearch online before you go - the true SAE and false SAE are very similar in appearance but have some distinguishing characteristics.

I have the "false Siamensis" - they do a great job of foraging and algae cleanup, but aren't interested in BBA like the real ones.

True SAEs are easy to identify. The black stripe goes all the way through the tail, the greyish/tan/brown is dull not golden like false SAEs, and each scale above the black stripe has a black edge making them look reticulated.

It really comes down to having seen them. Once you meet a real SAE you will never have a problem identifying them in the future. It's not even just the appearance, but also their behavior which indicates the genuine article.

Plus the card at PetsMart claims it as Crossocheilus siamensis, so if they turn out to be anything else, you can make a nice stink and demand some free stuff out of them!

That goes well for all of the know-nothings who love to dump random fish into their aquariums that never get water changes. Those people love to buy plecos and CAEs. At least in this case they'll be getting a fish that they might be able to keep.

oooh i hope we get them soon! we just got in the giant gouramis last friday (which confused me because our fish tag says 4", yet our care guide says 24", and everything i've read says around 24"), and amano shrimp and some cool platys the week before! Now I'm glad I'm working fish order tomorrow in case we get them in, other workers get a bit confused when we get new fish and don't know where they go.

thats aweosme! i bought some flying fox before and they ended up being SAE's! they're the most amazing fish ive ever had, and they clear the tank of every type of algae.
