PFK 10 worst fish for community tank

Definately agree with the chinese algae eaters! I have a 6" one that I had to move as he wouldn't stop bothering the pleco.

I think this list is very misleading.. most if not all could do just fine in a community of the right tank mates.

The problem is the last part of your sentence "with the right tankmates". Most people, when selecting community fish, will automatically assume that these fish are compatible with any of the other fish that are found in the "community" section. A more experienced hobbyist knows not to put a gibbiceps in a 20 gallon tank, and also knows that they're going to be spending some good cash on a larger tank along with a fairly large filter to clean up after it, but for a novice, these are things that can cause major problems, fish death, and eventual loss of interest in the hobby. Personally, I'm glad I made the beginner's mistake of buying a gibbiceps and he's the star of a planted 90 gallon, but I had to be awfully creative in how I scaped the tank to make sure my plants stay rooted, and I overfilter the tank enough to keep Koi in it. Then there was all the convincing I had to do with my better half.....

I've never had problems with black skirts or red eyes nipping...

I have kept (and still keep) several of these fish in a 90g community tank without issue.

However, I had plenty of issues when keeping just a couple of them in much smaller community tanks.

Horrible title for the list. Those are definitely not the 'worst'. Not even by a long shot. In fact, in a list of the 'worst community fish of all time' I'd rank nearly that entire list towards the very bottom.

We should make our own list. I'll start:

1. Guppies- because they breed too much and over-populate the tank. This often leads to increased stocking levels the aquarist was not prepared for. Consequently, ammonia levels will rise, killing all other fish in the tank. :grinyes:
