I checked my water this morning and found that everything was perfect except the pH was @ 8.4, rather than 8.2.

Is that kosher?

My tank has only been set up for a few weeks now, and only took about a week-10 days to cycle (lots of live rock and live sand helped, I guess).

Anyway, I'm guessing it's ok (FOWLR), but wanted to just ask right quick anyway.

I can't remember the brand name, but it was from Petco and it was buy a 50 gallon bag, get a 20 gallon bag fo' free.

I set up the tank approx. 3 weeks ago, and I did my first water change last Saturday with 7 gallons (55 gallon tank).

The fish are so darn small, and there's only 3 of them: 2 damsels and a perc.

a lot of times, the salt that is used can affect the pH..I always use Reef crystals and my pH is always the same..8.3...

On the water changes, you want to be aiming for 10% every week, or 15-20% every two weeks..

Am sure you have already been made aware of the potential agressivness of the damsels in your tank...

Niko

P.S...Just seen the pic of the salt...and i have to say i have never heard of it..but, saying that, i am in the UK and not the US...it may be a common salt, i dont know...

Yeah, I was worried about the damsel aggressiveness until I got that clown, and he pretty much dominates the tank. Or, rather, the fish definitely leave him alone and pick on each other.

Ahh well, I'm used to aggressive fish.

And really, in my 55 gallon, I want to get like 2 more fish and I'll be pretty much done, so everyone has their own space, and since there's about 70 lbs of rock in there, there's plenty of hiding places.

the petco brand stuff is....less than bad quality to be honest i have a buddy that works for them and he knows all the stuff that goes on. like Niko said id go with reef crystals. and try not to let the ph and higher than that the ideal range is usually 8.0-8.4.
